The big day is approaching: The kindergarten begins Find out how your child quickly in "newness of life" feels comfortable.

The day is arriving, when you will have to send your child to the kindergarten. Find out how quickly your child has adapted to the new environment.

The starts of the nursery are considered a big event for every child. It braces itself for the first day and when the time comes, they are often disappointed as the new environment, foreign children, educators and noise would scare them, making home the best place to go back to right there and then.

You can do a lot to ensure that your child feels safe in the kindergarten and settle in: give him a settling period

It is important for your child to have already seen the establishment for at least 1 time before the first day.

You can come with your child to the kindergarten to “discover” the new environment together. Assure it that you are there on the first day, to let your child take the opportunity to look at everything or just by sitting on your lap and watch the surroundings. You can then leave the nursery after 1 to 2 hours together.

In the next few days, your child will take part in the morning cycle with lunch as they get to mix around with the educator. After 3-4 days, you can leave the nursery for a short time, but you should be by your phone. This is to let your child have the confidence that you will be there when it needs you.

What does my child need for kindergarten?

Your child will get his own compartment. You can store the following:

      • Rain/ wind jacket, waterproof trousers and rubber boots to prepare for the bad weather
      • Bathing/ swimsuit and sunscreen
      • Gym shorts and a t-shirt
      • Slippers without the Velcro
      • Change of clothes and diapers in case your child dirties himself

If there is bedding and naps in the kindergarten

You will need to consider the time frame to get accustomed to kindergarten.

Was your child already in the care of another? It will be easier for him to get accustomed if he were so. If you have solely taken care of your child before kindergarten, it will take up to 4 weeks to get used to the new environment.

These tips can let kindergarten stay as a positive experience for your child

      • Talk about the nursery or read him books that fit the theme before he goes to the kindergarten
      • Let your child choose the things it takes to the nursery. This increases his excitement for the “big day”
      • Let your child have something familiar from home
      • Try to keep the farewell short. A long farewell increases the insecurities of your child.
